if i’m near death or dead, read this page

inspired by this page and my time with Spirit Rock’s year to live program, this is a page for what to do when i die (or am in a comatose or near-death state)

we live in a very large death-denying and death-fearing culture

faith keeps this alive

ironic isn’t that when someone dies religious folks think it’s a tragedy when the majority believe that the person is in a better place?

the truth is, death is the end

dust to dust

it’s estimated that we on average have 4000 weeks if we live to be 80

we don’t know when and how we are going to die

advanced directives

with my name change, i have started to fill these out and will upload them to the area hospitals and give a copy to my inner-circle

but, even tho this is not legally binding, please make me a DNR if i’m hospitalized and not expected to survive

pull the plug

do not under any circumstances try to keep my alive if the condition is terminal

we often treat our pets better than we treat our friends and family in the hospital

i do not currently have a will and will be addressing that this year (got it started on https://freewill.com but not done yet)

that being said, my beneficiaries are currently set to the wikimedia endowment

digital things

most of my work (and this site) is already archived with the internet archive and most of my photography is uploaded to the wikimedia commons

if possible tho, i would like this domain to stay up for as long as possible

it’s hosted on cloudflare pages/github which is free

the only thing is that the domain will be renewed each year, so please reach out to porkbun for however long you’d like to keep the domain up, preferably the longest time possible

passwords will be shared with the legacy settings in the account as will access to google via legacy

body

don’t bury me

my first preference is human composting, get me back to the earth

i request that https://recompose.life/ be the first choice for disposal of my remains

i plan on setting up with those folks within the next few years

if there is an option for organ and skin/tissues/eye donation, please do it

second preference is full-body burial at sea

lastly, if neither of those are feasible, please cremate me and scatter my ashses somewhere on mt. hood or the oregon coast (i’ll let you figure out how best to do that)

have part of the service incorporate a loving-kindness meditation and a mindfulness meditation

i would like the service to be out in nature if possible, but if not (if the weather is crazy or if it’s winter) go ahead and find an indoor space that is not a religious institution (hecc, it could be someone’s house rly)
